DOLLAR PERFORM AT WEMBLEY ARENA WITH TREVOR HORN

14th November 2004

Dollar & Trevor Horn On Stage At Wembley Arena 11th November 2004Thereza and David performed live at Wembley Arena last Thursday (11th November) for the second time in just under two years. They performed as part of the 'Produced By Trevor Horn' concert in aid of The Prince's Trust. They gave a brilliant performance of both 'Mirror Mirror' and 'Give Me Back My Heart' with Trevor Horn on Bass and backing vocals. Dollar came on stage straight after The Buggles who performed 'Video Killed The Radio Star' & 'Living In The Plastic Age'. Also on stage was Bruce Woolley (Trevor Horn's co-writer on two Dollar tracks) and Anne Dudley who played keyboards and synthesizers on all four Trevor Horn tracks. The concert was filmed for a DVD release and will hopefully be broadcast on TV. It was a truly magical evening.

There's a nice paragraph in the programme which reads:
Horn wrote a love story across four songs: 'Hand Held In Black And White' (the meeting), 'Mirror Mirror' (the loving), 'Give Me Back My Heart' (the break-up) and 'Videotheque' (the postscript).

TREVOR HORN CD ON SALE AT CONCERT

14th November 2004

The 'Produced By Trevor Horn' compilation CD was available to buy at the concert at Wembley Arena over a week before it's released in the shops. The sound quality of both 'Mirror Mirror & 'Give Me Back My Heart' is amazing. Hopefully this will lead to more Dollar tracks from Warners coming out on CD in the future.

TWO DOLLAR TRACKS ON 'DRAFT' TRACKLISTING FOR TREVOR HORN COMPILATION CD

5th September 2004

Produced By Trevor Horn LogoTrevor Horn was interviewed recently by Classic Gold DJ Bill Overton for BBC 6 Music. The interview will be used on news programmes on the run-up to the 'Produced By Trevor Horn' concert at Wembley Arena in November.
Bill has seen a draft tracklisting for the Trevor Horn compilation CD to be released later on this year. 'Mirror Mirror' and 'Give Me Back My Heart' are both included, but I must stress at this stage the tracklisting is a draft and therefore it could change. Other artists included are ABC, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, The Buggles, Seal, Rod Stewart, Grace Jones, Yes, Art Of Noise and Pet Shop Boys.
There is still no news as to whether Dollar will actually be performing at the concert in November.

Thank you to Bill Overton for this news / Links: Official Trevor Horn Website

DOLLAR FEATURED ON SKY ONE PROGRAMME 'THE POP YEARS 1981'

17th August 2003

Dollar Interviewed On 'The Pop Years 1981'Dollar were featured in the programme 'The Pop Years' shown on Sky One in the UK this week and repeated on Sky One Mix the following day. The programme documented the year 1981 and featured just over four minutes of Dollar, including an interview with Thereza & David recorded earlier on this year. Martin Fry from ABC was also interviewed on the programme, and it was interesting to hear his views on 'Mirror Mirror' which he described as a "widescreen record".

DAVID REMAKES 'O L'AMOUR' VIDEO FOR 'A QUESTION OF SPORT' QUIZ SHOW

17th August 2003

'O L'Amour' Video On A Question Of Sport

David has re-made part of the 'O L'Amour' video for the quiz show 'A Question Of Sport' which was shown this week on BBC1. The video clip was used in the section of the programme where the panelists have to guess the identity of a mistry sports personality. David played himself in the video while the mystery guest (athlete Sally Gunnel) played Thereza's part. The clip (which stayed very close to the original) was filmed in April this year in Brighton.

DOLLAR PERFORM LIVE ON 'REBORN IN THE USA' FINAL

27th April 2003

'Reborn In The USA' Final 26th April 2003Dollar performed the track 'Can't Give You Anything (But My Love)' on yesterdays final show in the 'Reborn In The USA' series live from London. Thereza & David didn't get the chance to perform the track in Philadelphia and Granada have done the only decent thing and let them perform again on the final programme. This time Dollar had the full orchestra to back them up rather than the backing tracks that were used for the shows in America. Dollar were the only other artists from the programme other than the two finalists to perform with the full orchestra, and I think you'll agree it was well worth the wait. They looked and sounded amazing, this performance was classic Dollar at their best. After their performance David mentioned to Davina that they are hoping to do some dates at the end of the year and have some more TV work lined up.

FIRST NEW DOLLAR RECORDING IN OVER 14 YEARS RELEASED TODAY

21st April 2003

The 'Reborn In The USA' compilation CD is released in the UK today by Universal Music TV (catalogue no: 038 284-2). It features the track 'Something Stupid' which Thereza & David recorded earlier on this year especially for the CD. As previously reported two new tracks were recorded but for some unknown reason only one has been included, the other track 'How Deep Is Your Love' remains unreleased. This is the first new Dollar recording to be released since the single 'It's Natures Way (No Problem) back in 1988. Listening to this new track you wouldn't think it's been over 14 years since Thereza & David last recorded together. The Dollar magic is still very much there, let's hope there's more of this to come in the future.

DOLLAR WITHDRAW FROM 'REBORN IN THE USA' ARENA TOUR

3rd April 2003

Dollar 2003Dollar have withdrawn from the 'Reborn In The USA' arena tour planned for October. It wouldn't have been fair for Dollar fans to pay out £30.00 plus to see them perform only two or three songs. Dollar are now scheduling other dates to give them at least one hour to perform on stage. This announcement may well put the whole 'Reborn In The USA' tour in jeopardy, as a large majority of the audience would have been coming solely to see Dollar perform.
Thereza & David will still be appearing on the final show in the series held in London at the end of this month. They'll perform either 'They Can't Take That Away From Me' or the track they were going to perform in Philadelphia 'Can't Give You Anything (But My Love)'.

ONLY ONE DOLLAR TRACK INCLUDED ON THE 'REBORN IN THE USA' CD

3rd April 2003

The 'Reborn In The USA' compilation CD which is released on 21st April will only include the one Dollar track 'Something Stupid'. No reason has yet been given by Granada as to why Dollar, Michelle Gayle & Sonia have only got one track each on the CD. Wether 'How Deep Is Your Love' will ever be released is up to Granada.

TV APPEARANCES PLANNED FOR NEXT WEEK

16th March 2003

Thereza & David are now back in the UK and getting ready for a round of press & TV interviews. After the press conference you'll be able to catch Dollar on 'This Morning' on ITV1 on Tuesday at 10.30pm, plus another appearance on RI:SE (on Channel 4) possibly Thursday or Friday morning. These dates are not set in stone and could possible change, sorry I can't be more specific. Thereza will fly back home to Australia at the end of this week, but will return to the UK at the end of April to appear in the final programme of 'Reborn In The USA' in London.

A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM THEREZA & DAVID

16th March 2003

"We are now back in the UK, thanks for all your support. You've seen all the tears and all the laughter over the period of two weeks. We gave it our all and we're glad to be back and moving onto other things".

DOLLAR LOSE PHONE VOTE ON 'REBORN IN THE USA'

15th March 2003

David & Thereza 2003Sorry to have to be the bearer of bad news, but I'm afraid to say Dollar have lost the phone vote with Sonia on 'Reborn In The USA'. Thereza & David are both flying back to the UK on Sunday for major press & TV interviews next week. There will also be a press conference on Monday. I spoke to David this afternoon and he's in very good spirits, he had this to say. "We've had an interesting two weeks, we're both happy to be coming home to speak to the UK press regarding the situation, we would like to set the record straight".
Dollar may be out of the programme but we haven't heard the last from Thereza & David, not by a long way.

DOLLAR PUT TO UK PHONE VOTE ON WEEK ONE OF 'REBORN IN THE USA'

9th March 2003

Dollar On 'Reborn In The USA' PURE CLASSDollar have been put to the UK vote in the first week of 'Reborn In The USA'. They are up against Sonia for a place in the 2nd show in Philadelphia next Saturday. Thereza & David gave a fantastic performance in the show singing 'They Can't Take That Away From Me', it's hard to believe they were voted one of the last two.
The rules state you can vote as many times as you like so let's get voting to keep Dollar in the show.

DOLLAR RECORD TWO NEW TRACKS FOR THE 'REBORN IN THE USA' CD
UK ARENA TOUR FEATURING ALL THE ACTS PLANNED FOR OCTOBER

23rd February 2003

David & Thereza 2003David is flying out to America on Sunday 2nd March to meet up with Thereza in New Orleans for the reality TV show 'Reborn In The USA'. The first show in the series starts on ITV1 on Saturday March 8th. Thereza was in the UK again earlier on this month to work on arrangements for the songs etc... The show will follow the acts as they tour seven cities in America singing cover versions that relate to the city they are performing in. The series will end on Saturday 26th April with the winner getting a recording contract. The seven cities are New Orleans, Philadelphia, Detroit, Memphis, Nashville, Cleveland & New York. Dollar will perform the track 'They Can't Take That Away From Me' at the first show in New Orleans.
There will also be a compilation CD released after the series has finished featuring all the acts involved. Dollar have recorded the tracks 'How Deep Is Your Love' & 'Something Stupid' to be included on the CD. There will also be a 'Reborn In The USA' arena tour of the UK in October featuring all the acts (including Dollar).

DOLLAR TO APPEAR IN REALITY TV SHOW 'REBORN IN THE USA'

15th February 2003

'Reborn In The USA' Line UpIt's now confirmed, Dollar are to appear in the reality TV show 'Reborn In The USA' starting next month on Saturday nights on ITV1 in the UK. Other acts taking part are Leee John (from Imagination), Tony Hadley (from Spandau Ballet), Mark Shaw (from Then Jerico), Sonia, Elkie Brooks, Gina G, Michelle Gayle and Haydon Eshun (from Ultimate Kaos).
The show (which will be presented by Davina McCall) will follow the stars as they tour the USA in true fly-on-the-wall style. The US audiences will vote for the singers they think deserve to stay on the tour. Then the two acts with the fewest votes will face a public vote by viewers in the UK and the loser will go home.
As the show is being shown at prime time on Saturday evening this is really great publicity for Dollar.

DOLLAR PERFORM LIVE ON 'HEAR & NOW' TOUR

14th December 2002

The 'Hear & Now Christmas Party 2002' Tour is now well under way here in the UK, it's truly fantastic to see Thereza & David performing together after all this time (14 years). They both seemed to be having a great time on stage last night at the Sheffield Arena. Dollar were placed forth on the bill last night and came onstage to great applause and cheering from the audience. They were on stage for just over 30 minutes and did all the Trevor Horn tracks plus 'Shooting Star', 'Who Were You With In The Moonlight, 'I Wanna Hold Your Hand' and finished with 'O L'Amour'.

Thereza & David have also been doing some TV & radio appearances in the UK. They have been interviewed on the following programmes:

Liquid News - BBC Choice
RI:SE - Channel 4
Live With... Chris Moyles - Channel 5
Nicky Campbell Radio Show - Radio Five Live

Above are three pictures from the press conference taken from the Liquid News programme on BBC Choice, plus the front and back of the promotional flyer for the tour. The Dollar paragraph on the flyer reads as follows:

Reforming especially for the tour, this will be the first time since their hit 'O L'Amour' in 1987 that David Van Day & Thereza Bazar will have performed together. Dollar had a string of hits starting in 1978 with 'Shooting Stars'. The duo were never out of the charts for the next ten years with such tracks as 'Mirror Mirror', 'Hand Held In Black & White', Give Me Back My Heart', 'Videotheque', 'Love's Gotta Hold On Me' & 'I Wanna Hold Your Hand'.

5th February 2002

The Latest Dollar compilation to be released next week 'Shooting Stars - The Dollar Collection' will now NOT include the two unreleased Dollar tracks 'Movies I Dream' & 'It Don't Matter' as previously stated. DAVID APPEARS ON 'NEVER MIND THE BUZZCOCKS'

27th October 2001

David Van Day On 'Never Mind The Buzzcocks'David was one of the guest panelists on the BBC TV programme 'Never Mind The Buzzcocks' shown last Monday 22nd October on BBC2. Predictably David took a lot of stick from both the presenter Mark Lamarr and team captain Sean Hughes. In the song lyrics section he successfully gave the next line to 'Mirror Mirror' and even sang the next line to the Guys 'n' Dolls track 'You Don't Have To Say You Love Me'. A couple of Dollar clips from Top Of The Pops were shown at the start of the programme. This is the second time Dollar have appeared on TV recently after a short clip of an old interview was shown on the new look Top Of The Pops last week.

PLANS FOR WEA 'BEST OF' CD SCRAPPED

31st March 2001

Unfortunately Warner Music UK (WEA records) have decided not to release a 'Best Of' Dollar CD. The head of the back catalogue department at Warner had this to say, "I'm afraid there are no plans for a Dollar 'Best Of' at this point. The Dollar catalogue and the rights thereto are a very tangled plot that will take a long time to untangle". I've been in touch with David regarding this matter and he's still under the impression that these tracks will come out on CD one day. As far as he knows Trevor Horn has no control over the rights to any of their tracks recorded for WEA records, so what exactly is the problem here?

DOLLAR FEATURED IN 'TOP TEN DUETS' PROGRAMME

11th February 2001

Thereza Bazar 2001The latest in the Top Ten series on Channel 4 in the UK finally showed the Top Ten Duets programme featuring Dollar. Both Thereza and David were interviewed on the show along with Trevor Horn's co-writer Bruce Woolley. Dollar were positioned at No. 5 ahead of Ike & Tina Turner and Donny & Marie Osmond. It was nice to see Thereza after all this time and looking so happy. In the interview she said "I'm very happy settled down under in sunny Sydney, and I have two gorgeous children and a gorgeous husband, and quite content. Although I do miss the music industry like mad". David again said "If Thereza wants to come back from Oz next week for a working holiday we'll do a tour, I can never say never again because every time I say that things change".
